When something bad happens to you. Why does everyone insist on apologising instead of offering advice or help? Even if they can’t offer anything. Asking if or how they can help is the next best thing. Since I lost my job and got saddled with a £1000 overpayment debt from the same shitty job all in the same month, every person I’ve told has been just saying sorry but sorry doesn’t change the facts, but help with food money or help with the bills or help with referring me to jobs or help with dealing with my creditors or referring me to debt assistance agencies or help with any of that would be something. When people say they are sorry I know they mean well, of course I know they do and I shouldn’t be angry but it feels like such a shut down ‘stop talking about it’ way to end a conversation. I know I must not be overreacting with how bad this feels because no one so far has said anything other than 'sorry that’s happening’ or 'I don’t know what to advise’ so I guess that’s that.
